The objective of the workshop was to develop the network and to introduce new ITAB products.
Speaking at the occasion Mr. Siegfried Kawatski Senior Project Manager of InWEnt said Tanzania has become an important initiator and incubator for the development of information and communication technology. He also said that it is great importance that the IT institutions of SADC are joined together to form a large regional cross-border network under the name IT@AB with the goal of supporting the use of business related IT, e-business and e-commerce in Africa.
The Business Times of Tanzania – 7th November 2003, is quoted “ the IT Network opens up the world of e-business to local business”. The eight day workshop was organized by Agumba Computers LTD in collaboration with InWEnt – Germany, financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
In his opening remarks at the workshop, the Tanzanian Minister for Foreign and International Cooperation, Mr. Jakaya Kikwete, emphasized the importance of using information Technology (IT) to simplify and fasten trade within the SADC region. Mr. Kitwete congratulated the ITAB Network partners for having organized the workshop in the region.
The following countries were represented at the workshop; South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique and Namibia.
At the workshop two new products developed by InWEnt in collaboration with IT@AB were launched. A “Blended Learning Product” pertaining to “Business Related IT Training and Consultancy” and “Internet Guide for Business Information” an E-info Guide.
The Blended Learning product focuses on the following knowledge areas:
• Internet Technology
• IT - Security
• IT - Consultancy
• E – Business Applications
• Managing Complex ICT projects
• E – Learning
• Collaborative Learning Environment (CLE)
• Business Information fom the Internet
Mr. Paul Koyi, Managing Director of Agumba Computers in collaboration with Tanzanian IT@AB partners (University of Dar Es Salaam Computing Centre, Board of External Trade, and Infosys – Tanzania) organised the highly successful workshop.
